We call H20s "Twice a Year Jews" in my family. Doesn't have the ring of "C & E Catholics" that my friends always talk about.

And the ticket thing...it sucks...but that's how synagogues get money. People who only show up 2x a year are also less likely to give anything to the synagogue beyond their membership dues. I think of it this way--my Catholic friends give money every week in the collection plate. If you were to add up that money for the whole year--it would probably be as much as a High Holiday Ticket. While I agree that it's unfair, many synagogues work on payment plans--and many people no longer pay 'full dues' for whatever reason. Synagogues are so crowded this time of year, it's also easy for them to bear the brunt of heavy foot traffic. I know my synagogue at home uses some of the ticket money to pay for a huge cleaning before and after each High Holiday so that things look wonderful when people come in, and afterward.
