Actually thats not correct.

A hokie is actually a Virginia Tech fan.

The word was made up way back whent the school changed its name for a cheer contest (back before the 1900s) and it kind of stuck.

Why people get this confused is because of the HokieBird. The hokiebird evolved from a turkey because the school was once the fighting gobblers.

I am a Virginia Tech Alum (worked with the alum association in school) and a loyal fan
