Three possibilities:
1. The restaurants closed/went bankrupt/burned down.
2. Your lovely sunshiney nature, innate attention to detail, and supreme courteousness towards mankind showed in your work.
3. The extreme pressure of locating people who were standing at the front of a restaurant and directing them to chairs was too much to handle for your delicate nerves.
