And northerners aren't Christian? Or do you mean that they have to be a specific TYPE of Christian? From my experience, Old Line Protestants (e.g. Episcopalians) usually say what type of Christian they are, while those who say that they're "Christian" are more than likely part of an evangelical (though not evangelical Anglican/Episcopalian (aka "low church")) church.
