My straightahead (none of that Kenny G crap for me )jazz artist of the year nominee is:

Terence Blanchard, "Let's Get Lost." Tasteful trumpet playing and film music. Guest stars include good singers like Dee Dee Bridgewater and Cassandra Wilson.
