My point isn't to say that there are crazy hippies, goths, etc., who join sororities-- it is just that everyone is looking to conform to some social group; some fit in with more than one. Sororities represent the mainstream elite ideal. And while majority are a good fit with diverse interests, and backgrounds, they have a healthy sense of self esteem and personal value that makes the sorority a part of their identity, and not their whole personality. Some crazies are attracted to that latter aspect-- desparate to improve their social station or looking to be envied by others for their affiliation. Some think that by joining they will be popular and loved by all. Or people with a very poor sense of self join thinking the sorority will bring them self-worth.
I think there are fraternity crazies, too, but they manifest themselves in another way... and they don't tend to post much on the internet.
ZTAngel, I vaguely remember that girl... There's one every year like her... They usually rush at a parents' insistence or they don't understand what sororities are. Some think that joining a sorority is a pre-req to get involved with campus activities!
