I'm betting it came from a combination of young and inexperienced Panhellenic directors plus some pushy sorority members. Beginning jobs in student life pay abominably so with inexperience,a lot of sketchy stuff flies by and I have seen some
things happen since my 6 oldest girls started college (the first went in 2000). Things that no one challenged, not even local alum clubs or advisors, so nothing was done.
