From an email:

Many of you will watch Spike Lee's documentary on HBO tomorrow night. Please remember that for many, both the images and the experience was real. The rate of depression and suicide is at an all-time high in the City. Even those such as myself who suffered minor to no loss of personal property or employment are still affected in some manner.

The upcoming period of continued observances is causing tremendous anxiety for all in some form or another, but there can be no "Katrina fatigue" here if there is to be a full recovery.

On Aug. 29, bells will ring all over the Gulf Coast in remembrance of the tremendous loss of life and devastation to property. Thanks for remembering us in your own way.

For Whom the Bell Tolls, is taken from "Meditation XVII" of Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions, by John Donne

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
