From the FAQ:
What if I cannot attend a mandatory Kentucky Welcome event?
Although there is no penalty for missing a mandatory Kentucky Welcome event, it is to your detriment to do so. Kentucky Welcome activities are designed to meet the needs of new students. Students who do not take full advantage of the activities and resources available to them will be at a disadvantage compared to other new students. While students may be upset about skipping a vacation or family event to attend Kentucky Welcome, they should remember that they only begin college once and should devote their time and attention to getting a good start.
Even sorority recruitment has a required Safety Awareness Session (that actually is required.)
