Just out of curiosity, what happens to a new student who doesn't attend a "required" activity? Like the theatrical performance regarding violence against women, for example. Who would know whether you went or not, and what would happen to you if you didn't? Maybe it's just me (and perhaps this belongs in a different thread), but I thought college was a time for young adults to make their own decisions and live with the consequences. I'm all for abiding by the rules, but some rules (like requiring attendance at a theatrical performance) don't have any business being in place on a college campus.

I believe many colleges today cover their behinds (especially with regard to on-campus housing) by providing opportunities for students to get as much information as possible. At both my daughters' colleges when they began their tenure there were mandatory sessions on alcohol usage, date rape, etc. The information presented were presented in ways (according to my kids) that were both educational and entertaining.
