I agree, you can't define "fat" as a number on the scale. 150 lbs isn't the same for someone 5'2" tall as it is for someone who's 5'10". BMI is a little better because it takes your height into consideration, but you also have to consider your fat percentage - you could be 150 and very muscular, or 150 with much of it fat.

If you're carrying around much more weight than you should be, you get out of breath walking up one flight of stairs, and you are having health problems (bad back, etc) that are caused or exacerbated by your weight, then you're overweight (I hate the word "fat") and you need to do something about it. Otherwise, you may be carrying around a few extra pounds you'd like to get rid of, but that's not "fat".
