Hmmm... sounds like "my" school

The original post has been edited so I cannot see that but from what I see here this looks like maybe the same thing they are implementing this year at the school where I advise.

Basically administration decided to move FR from August to November. Their argument is that freshmen need time to adjust to school academically before committing to Greek Life. (Don't even get me started on why I think this is a bad idea.) Because they just told us this in March/April, not having a full new member class in August would cause major budgetary problems for every chapter. We are accustomed to having ~120 paying members in August. With the change we would only have about 80. So the school agreed that we could all COB in August to total. The COB process will only be open to students who are upperclassmen or transfered from another school (I think they have to have 12 hours completed or something). FR in November will be open to any full-time student at the school - so upperclassmen and transfer students can still choose to join that way although it might not be the best idea. Many groups on our campus will not take upperclassmen through FR.

The chapter I advise had three empty spots beginning last January. There were roughly 20 interested women. We decided that instead of taking only 3 of them and making the other 17 mad, we'd just leave those three spots open until this fall when we can hopefully take all 20 women. Basically we didn't want to burn any bridges when we knew we could take as many of those women as are qualified in the fall. Of course we also run the risk that they'll choose another group since all the groups will be trying to COB to total in August. This also could mean that chapter size will increase. If we all COB to total (114) and then take a whole new member class in November, we're looking at chapter sizes of ~150 or so.

Anyway - just thought I'd post in case that is similar to what is going on here. Again, I couldn't see the original posting.
