A debutante is not necessarily a southern-only tradition. It happens at country clubs all around the country. College-age girls from wealthy families are "presented" to their parents' friends and families at a formal dance given in the debutantes' honor. The girls being presented traditionally wear white formal gowns.
To Shinerbock re: the Peachtree City comments- Would Peachtree City exist in all its glory if it weren't for the Delta airline pilots and their money? How many of those Delta pilots are true native Georgians, born and bred? And don't think Fayette county is the only one reaping the benefit of the Clayton exodus.
