Think of GPA requirements for sororities as similar to GPA requirements for a competitive academic program. If there are a limited number of slots, even if you have the minimum GPA, if there are more people with a higher GPA, you might not be admitted. For instance, for the OT program I was in, the minimum GPA was a 3.0 but nobody with below a 3.4 got into it because it was so competitive.
