What proof do I need when the band admitted in several interviews that they had to have the FBI at the show in Dallas to make sure that nothing happened?

There are a ton of controversial female entertainers that are not put in their place.

Are there? Name them. Because all I can think of is the vehement reaction to women like the Chicks, to Hilary Clinton, to Maureen Dowd, and in some ways, to Ann Coulter, and countless women throughout history. Powerful men who express their opinions are respected. Powerful women who express their opinions are "bitches," "whores," or are told they'd better shut up and sing, or they'll be killed on X date in X arena at X time.

I love how this goes from "People against freedom of speech hate them" to "People against non-country music hate them" to "People against women hate them".

Maybe it went there in your mind, but it's a logical progression to me. People who are threatened by anything that goes against the norm usually have a laundry list of things they fear or are against. You can ignore the fact that there is a gendered aspect to the response the Chicks get, but it doesn't make it any less true.

How many excuses can people find for them just plain sucking?

If they suck, then say they suck. Don't say "Those bitches made me mad, and they deserve to die for what they said about the President." Make it plain and skip the hyperbole.
