"Hi Lynn! I asked our technical expert about the chat room, and here is what he told me:
As for the blinking, it is because we are technically not chatting so we have to constantly refresh the page to get new content. The only way to alleviate this is to find an acutal chat server (which will cost), set one up on your patriot box (which would clog up your line) or I can dig up a flash based chat I used to have and try it, although it probably will do the same thing. Most hosting providers don't provide chat services and let specialized servers handle that because of the high traffic demand. On somebody else's server you can never completely guarantee only AGD's will be in there.
Right now, because of the infancy of the site and costs, we will probably stay with the chat room as is. Once the site has been functioning for a while, we can determine if this is a direction we want to investigate. J
