My personal feeling is that a lot of the stuff that goths are into is pretty lame. A lot of them are just high school kids that are trying to be like their older, gothier friends (and in my opinion, after a certain age, if you're still rocking the goth look, you're super-lame) and trying to freak out their parents. I mean, how REAL can you be when you buy your clothes and your personality and your persona from Hot Topic. Personally, I think a lot of these kids are into the whole goth scene to freak their parents out and because they think they're being such rebels and non-conformists. And I think they're are bands that cater to that to sell records (also dressing goth, having "dark" lyrics, having a stage show or a music video that's "scary"). To me, it all just comes across as trying too hard, and that's lame.

How REAL can you be buying your clothes at A&F? Or Aeropostale? Or Forever 21? Or The Gap? Or whatever is trendy at the moment? How REAL can you be buying Dolce & Gabbana purses? Or Gucci? Or ANY brand name for that matter?

There are posers in some "labels", but just like anyone who shops anywhere there are people who will dress the way they feel comfortable. One person may feel their best wearing A&F but another may feel more comfortable wearing Hot Topic.

Back on topic... entertainment is what it is... entertainment. Britney Spears gave off the persona that she was a goody goody and a virgin and whatever. Do you really think she was like that in real life? It's the same way with rockers. There are some who are hard and sing about hard stuff and live the life of partying, drinking and sexing. But there are some rockers who are pretty hard and live in nice houses and are genuinely good people.

Now on the flip side of the satanic music thing... I know of a band who met through their youth gruop and was pretty religious, said they didn't want to be on MTV and whatever cuz they didn't want to sell out, a few years later they drop part of their name and OH have a video on MTV and get pretty popular. I laughed when I heard that they weren't such "good" boys and that drugs started getting involved. I won't say who it is but true story.
