From Wikipedia:
19 Entertainment, based in the United Kingdom, is a leading creator and producer of entertainment properties, including American Idol in the United States, Pop Idol in the United Kingdom, as well as versions of the Idol Series in more than seventy countries around the world.
The company has recording contracts with and/or manages or has managed former American Idol and Pop Idol participants, such as Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, and Fantasia as well as some of the world's best known musicians and other artists, including the Spice Girls, Annie Lennox and S Club 7.
And, apparently, they have changed their name to 19 Management, so you'll start seeing 19M used instead. From what I've heard, they are quite controlling with the people who do well on Idol, and even, now, anybody who shows up on TV. After the William Hung thing, they changed the contract to ensure that only they have control of these folks, even those who are just shown auditioning but don't make it, for some period of time.
