From my own experience of owning a VW as well as working at a VW dealer - DON'T buy one! They have TONS of problems, mostly electrical and cost tons. The only good VW's are the Passat & the Gulf - the Toureg has a lot of problems still, the Jetta is a POS and the Beetle is high maintenance.
I'm on my second Acura and I LOVE IT! It's been great - I did just have to replace the transmission but it was under warrenty (and there was a recall). It's an 01 CL type S with just over 50K miles.

As far as your first 3 choices I wouldn't get the RX8 - it's not very well made and doesn't drive that great. Be careful with the 350Z - I have a few friends that own them and they've had some costly repairs - like brakes and such. I haven't heard anything bad about the GTO and from what I know they drive nicely.
