I know these people, they tell me to go ahead and elope, I'm sure they don't care. What will shut them up if they want us to get married sooner, is if I tell them pay for it. I'd marry this man tomorrow if I could but no one is going to put me in the poor house to satisfy them.

And you just answered the question: You're waiting so that you can plan and save for the wedding and reception you want. If your families press the issue, just tell them that if they want you married sooner, you can always elope and then they won't get to be there when you get married... they'll shut up
