When people are in groups watching a crime take place it takes that one person to stand up and make a move then everyone will join in to help. I forget the name of the woman that was murdered while a significant # of her apartment neighbors watched. This was back in the 70s or 80s.
I think if she had yelled and screamed more in angst and used different words each time she yelled out, maybe that would have had more people react sooner.
