When you don't talk, not even through your attorney or to the police, it really looks suspcious. Maybe they have reasons, I don't know, but human nature makes it look bad on them.
Let me take a moment to provide a public service announcement to everybody on GC.

THE POLICE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. PROSECUTORS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.

Don't talk to the police. If I had $1 for every client who was told by some good-cop acting all buddy buddy "Oh hey, just tell me what happened and you can go home" I'd be able to bail their sorry asses out of the joint right now.

Any defense attorney worth a shit will tell his or her clients to STFU. Any defense attorney worth a shit isn't going to say anything to anybody unless it's going to get some good publicity for the client, which is unlikely in most cases.

I have never, ever in my life told a client to talk to the police. Never. It's not done (which, to get off topic for a second, is why Law and Order drives me batshit). Period. Clients don't talk to police, prosecutors, or the press unless you're Johnny Freaking Cochran. I know they're not all bad, but I've seen cops lie under oath in court. You never, ever know how anything you say will be used against you, and therefore it is best to not say anything.
