Sarah, you're partly correct.

To clear up any misconceptions: Betty Crocker was not a Delta Zeta since she (Betty Crocker) is actually a promotional advertising character created in 1921. HOWEVER, Mercedes Bates, a Delta Zeta alumna from the University of Oregon, was the first woman corporate officer of General Mills. Ms. Bates was often referred to at the company as "Betty Crocker" as she was the Vice President in Charge of the Betty Crocker Division. She was President of the American Home Economics Association and its foundation and was the 1970 Delta Zeta Woman of the Year.
