A couple of my friends and sisters have guys who are currently or have been deployed. We've talked alot about what to expect, how it feels, and the different things that you go through.
Yes, he will have e-mail and phone access once he gets to his base. Once he gets to Iraq he'll have e-mail and limited phone access. So that's comforting.

Must be nice to know he'll have email and phone access. My ex bobbed around the Pacific Ocean for months at a time and while we had email, it was a general email for the whole ship and someone had to print out the actual emails and give them to the guys. Keep in mind that this was almost 5 years ago. They hadn't quite figured out how to give each guy his own email. Oh well.
But man...whenever I got word that the ship pulled into port my phone was with me at all times because I knew I was gonna get a phone call soon.
He got to go all over the world, so the presents I got when he came back were always appreciated!
