On that note:
We really liked hearing when a PNM actually did volunteer in the past for a battered women's/children's shelter or with sexual assault prevention and education groups. I can't speak for everyone in my sorority, but if a PNM volunteered at a philanthropy related to ours, she stood out to me.
Even if you didn't volunteer with our specific philanthropy, it's always good to mention community involvement.
So ditto to what kddani said. Don't fall into the "gushing" trap, it'll make you sound insincere.
