Trust me there are other cultures in which it is ingrained, too, e.g. Minnesota Nice. I have served on the boards of many nonprofit orgs and I teach a graduate school class on ethical decision making in nonprofit management. My students are 90 percent white as are their orgs--and they face the same issue.

For nonprofits, it is the dynamic of a volunteer board and a paid CEO--and race has nothing to do with it.
