Destiny's Child
(Nov. 15, 2001) Fairfax, VA -- The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has announced that Destiny's Child will perform on the national January 5, 2002 coast-to-coast star-studded television fund-raiser An Evening of Stars: A Celebration of Educational Excellence. The program will air on January 6, 2002 in some markets. Check your local television listing.

"We're blessed to have a successful career in the music business. That's why we're here to help the United Negro College Fund continue working for all of our deserving brother and sisters," stated Destiny's Child's trio Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.

An Evening of Stars will light up the nation's television airwaves with electrifying concert performances by some of music's hottest acts. Yolanda Adams, Boyz II Men, Tyrese, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Donnie McClurkin, Chante Moore and Lou Rawls are some of the artists singing support for the UNCF. Also, there will be inspirational words from Bryant Gumbel, Debbie Allen, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and others. Outstanding UNCF students and alumni, including Dr. Ruth Simmons, president of Brown University, will be honored during the broadcast. Emmy Award-winner Louis J. Horvitz returns as director and producer. The national sponsors for An Evening of Stars are AT&T, Prudential, JP Morgan Chase and American Airlines. "Thanks to our celebrities, sponsors, and supporters, last year, An Evening of Stars raised a record $13.7 million in cash and pledges. For every dollar UNCF collects in donations, more than 85 cents goes directly to supporting the college ambitions of needy young people," said William H. Gray, III, President and CEO, United Negro College Fund. "Today there are more than 60,000 students who depend on our support to attend UNCF colleges and graduate schools."

The United Negro College Fund is the nation's oldest African American higher education assistance organization. UNCF enhances the quality of education by raising operating funds for its 39 member colleges and universities and providing financial assistance to deserving students attending UNCF and other American colleges and universities. UNCF administers more than 450 scholarships and fellowships to students and faculty who attend its member colleges and universities, other HBCUs, and majority institutions throughout the country. Since its founding in 1944, UNCF has raised nearly $1.8 billion to promote higher education and has helped more than 300,000 students earn undergraduate and graduate degrees. Well, I don't think I'll be watching the part of the UNCF when the "jellylicious" girls are on.
