Senator Obama

Well as far as "grass roots" issues, I like the fact that he is a member of the Senate Veteran Affairs Committee which battles to help vets get fair benefits

He worked with both Dems and Reps to create the Earned Income Tax Credit program for working families which provided $100 million in tax cuts for working families in his state alone

He proposed Medicare pare D trying to make a better medicare better for the elderly

Helped pass the Wired for Health Act which passed the Senate unanimously. This act will save $140 billion per year and lower healthcare costs for the average family by about $700 a year.

Foreign Relations

I agree with his view on the Iraq war as far as what needs to be done. We should pull out, but not so fast that the country gets worse and we end up having to go right back. Our focus should be to train Iraqi troops and police officers so that they can fight the terrorists and we can go home

My Experience

When I have to send my Soldiers out the wire to get information from Iraqis or go to one of the academies to teach them tactics, they come back saying that half of them really want to help their country but the other half just want a paycheck (which can be understandable) and are not worried with learning as fast as they can because they know we (US troops) will do the fighting for them. This type of thinking pisses the US troops off, not the fact that everyone in the US is not going along with the war as some politicians have suggested.
