As for why...
Alpha Phi Omega's Convention rotates through Convention Regions (West, North, East and South). 2006 had to be in the North convention region. There are parts or all of Regions V, VI, VIII and IX in that region.
From what I understand, the last two in the north had been in the largest cities of Region VIII (St. Louis) and Region IX (Minneapolis), so those regions didn't look to put together bids. Region VI originally wanted to do Indianapolis, which didn't work out and then tried Grand Rapids, Michigan. That bid didn't fulfill the criteria set forth by the National Board, so Region V's selection (Louisville) won, essentially by default. Some of the people here were at the 2004 convention in Denver, let me know if I've got this all correct?
