Phi Delt & Teke trivia
Milton Allen Connard of nearby Elwin, IL, close to Decatur, was
a member of Illinois Epsilon chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Illinois
Wesleyan. He lived from 1858 to 1946, dying in Decatur. He was
the father of Arthur Foster Connard (1886-1984), a charter member of Gamma of TKE and Past Grand Pylortes. Art, who is no
kin of mine, and I corresponded 'til his death. He was president of the Great Books of Cleveland, a well-traveled man, had no issue, was a telegrapher and had the most beautiful handwriting
I ever saw. When I asked frater Connard what it was like being
Grand Pylortes in 1913, he said he would eat an apple, stand outside the door and stop any barb or infidel from entering.
A charming, highly intelligent, loveable man...he had a goodly number of kin who joined TKE, mostly Beta and Gamma chapters.
He was still traveling the world until he was 98 years old.
