Emory's Phoenix Plan

My AEPi Emory friend has gotten a letter from his chapter (beginning, of course, with the usual "It has been many years since you have heard from us" - this even has "It" misspelled).

The AEPi Emory chapter died in 1994, and the eyesore chapter house, with asbestos and lead paint problems, was demolished, with Emory forgiving a $165,000 mortgage.

The revived (in 1999) chapter had the largest campus pledge class in Jan. 2005.

Emory is willing to build the chapter a $2.7 - $3 mil house (19 2-man rooms, kitchen serving 100, elevator, wired) on Greek Row, under the Phoenix Plan: Emory would own the house and lot, collect the residents' rent, inspect the house monthly, and do all repairs; alumni and ugs have to raise $300,000 (10%) for furniture. Emory can rent out the house summers for conference visitors, and the income is used for decorating and repairs.

"AEPi is the only National Fraternity with a Jewish identity," it says, and the new house would include a Kosher Pantry.

Sounds like a pretty decent plan, and hope the ugs and alums can raise the $300,000.
