Both were assigned their final project, charity fundraisers. Rebecca had to host a comedy event raising money for the Elizabeth Glaser AIDS Foundation. Despite her comedian pulling out, It was a nice event but how much money did Rebecca raise? $0. Did anyone notice that Donald was disappointed (and stated on the show) that Rebecca did not come out or send someone to greet him when she knew in advance he was coming? Randal had to host a celebrity softball tournament to raise money for Autism Speaks. It did rain forcing the event inside. How much money did Randal raise? $11,000. . . . Randal raised money for Autism Speaks despite his obstacles and that is the difference in 'writing about businesses and running them". That is also the reason why Trump only hired 1 Apprentice. Now if you still think both should have been hire that night then you are speaking from emotion, not rational.

But, and I think it is a significant but, Rebecca did exactly what the host of the event told her they wanted. Could she have tried to talk them out of it? Sure. Could Rebecca have made sure that EG Ped AIDS had more of a "presence" at the event? Definitely. But unless the candidates got instructions we didn't hear (certainly possible, but not likely since at no point did Trump, Carolyn, George, Randal or anyone else say "it was made clear the charity was the client," and Trump asked both candidates "who did you think the client was?"), then I don't think Rebecca was
that off base by understanding that her client was Yahoo rather than EG Ped AIDS and her job was to plan an event the way the host wanted the event to go. OutBack certainly seemed to think they were Randal's client.
And if you're going to point fingers at how Rebecca failed to raise money when she planned the charity event, then you can't ignore Randal's failure to have a "Plan B" -- Carolyn certainly couldn't let that go and was obviously astounded at Randal's failure in that regard -- even more so when he said he dismissed chances of rain because it was "only" 30%. And while he clearly thought Randal did a good job raising money, George also clearly though Randal did
not do that a great job planning the event. Bottom line -- it was clear that George and Carolyn both thought Randal did a much better job raising money but that Rebecca did a much better job planning the event. Her failure to raise money at least appeared to be directly related to a failure on someone's part to communicate exactly who the client was.
Again, I think overall Randal deserved to win. But I don't think the fact the Rebecca failed to raise money is the reason why. After all, the person who supposedly only writes about business pulled off an event that impressed everyone (even if it didn't raise money). The person who runs businesses instead of writing about them failed to have a rain plan for an outdoor event, something Carolyn was still baffled by right before Randal was hired.
