CT4, don't feel bad.....
.....I got my first license at the age of 22 (Friday, June 14, 1996).
Things happen.
BTW, that was my 3rd attempt to get a license. The first time was in '93, got my temps, no one would let me practice driving, and my temps expired, the 2nd time was in '95, I was practice driving, but no one would let me borrow their car for the exam, so the temps expired again, the 3rd time was in '96, and I had even taken a driving school course. It took 2 tries to get my license, the 1st time I passed maneuverability but failed the road test, the 2nd time I had to bribe someone into using their car by paying $75. It worked, and the rest is history.
ETA: Before I had a car, I rode a bicycle EVERYWHERE through any type of weather (think 40 Year Old Virgin). But I loved my bike. The only reason why I got a car was because it was becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. Looking back, I just didn't think that having a car at 17/18/19 years old without making sufficient money to properly care, maintain, and insure it was a very smart thing to do. So while I did get clowned for riding a bicycle, all things considered, I think it was a good choice.
