Actually eye access cues were really big for a while. And I know that a off shoot of psychology known as NLP, Neuro linguistic programming, used to do a lot with it. Basically the idea is that people will tend look briefly into different directions as they access information and this can give you insight into the way they process their thoughts. Used as a tool it becomes easier to "mirror" their communication style.

That site gives a very basic overview. I played with it as a tool for a little while but didn't really feel like taking the time to completely master it. However, even in play, it worked enough to be promising. But luckily people are pretty easy to read anyway.

NLP itself was an attempt to develop a success orientated tool that could quickly transform a person's life and habits.

Oh . . . an as for lying, there are directions people look for constructed memories . . or lies.

Sigh, I am such a despository of useless trivia . . . .
