I got hired by
the East-West Center last week and today was my first day on the job. Pretty sweet considering it was only a one day work week! Back to my old University stomping grounds for me! For those who don't know what the EWC is, it's a federally funded program started in the 1950s to promote and foster American relations with Asian and Pacific nations. It's located at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, but it's totally independent from the State of Hawaii.
My official title is Fellows Research Specialist. I'll be assisting a number of Asian-Pacific scholars. It's a temporary position that can range anywhere between 3 to 6 months, depending on the progress of the scholars. The pay is surprisingly excellent (way better than they who fly the "Friendly" Skies.... aaaaand I get benefits and a
cost of living allowance since it's a federally funded program.
And oh yeah, I get to play online because I work independently. Saweet.
In the meantime, I'm still looking for a more permanent position elsewhere, but this sure beats not doing shit, right?
