I gained about 30 my freshman year. Went to Weight Watchers during the summer and lost 40. Gained 30 my sophomore year. Went to Weight Watchers during the summer and lost 35. Never went home for the summer again and it was all downhill from there...
"Working out" has become really common now but nobody did that when I was in school. Aerobics classes started to get common shortly after I graduated and then gyms started popping up everywhere. They did have an IM building with some workout stuff, but only the super jocks went there.
The food wasn't great, but the bad thing about it was that it wasn't healthy either. The first thing you encountered when you walked in the cafeteria was the desserts, while you waited in line for your entrees. There was a salad bar, but I don't think I ever saw a piece of fruit the entire time I was in school. Everything was high fat, deep fried, calorie laden. They didn't even offer skim milk. When there was nothing decent in the cafeteria, you used your meal card at the snack shop on campus and got nachos. Pizza's were $5 delivered.
