Freshman year, I had an Oral Communications class that was one part lab and one part lecture. The lecture professor was the same prof for all the sections. He was AWFUL.

The class had 400 people in it. There was a sign in sheet for attendance.

The lecture was an hour long, and if he saw ANYONE get up and walk out (which usually goes unnoticed in large lectures), he would STOP class, start READING off names from the attendance sheet, and if you didn't answer when called, he'd FAIL you for the semester.

In a 400 seat lecture hall, you can usually whisper something to your friend next to you with no problem. Profs don't really care about that unless you get loud enough to be heard. If anyone's MOUTH even moved like they were talking, he would stand up and YELL at the person to leave the lecture hall and drop the course immediately.

He did this to one kid who was in the BALCONY of the lecture hall, and the prof saw him lean over and whisper to his neighbor (he couldn't have actually HEARD him, there's no way). He SCREAMED at this kid, and was so irate that he knocked the overhead projector off of the desk. He ended up getting alot of bad reviews and retiring since he was tenure and the university couldn't fire him.
