I had heard that he has an obsession with people wearing hats (either males or females ) in his classes and he makes everyone take off hats in class.
In my research on the "rate my professor" website, I read that he made and/or forced a quadrapalegic take his/her hat off in class. If I had been in that class, I would have probably been restrainted as I would have had to open up a can of verbal "whoop-ass" on this professor for the way he treated a handicapped student. Nothing pisses me off more than discrimination against anyone.

While I agree that forcing a quadripalegic to take off a hat is taking things too far I don't think it was really discrimination. It would have been discrimination if he only enforced the policy on the handicap student. From what you say it sounds as if he was enforcing the policy equally on all students.
I also don't think it is wrong for a teacher to have a no hat policy in class. I believe that all ettiquete states that a male should not wear a hat indoors - a rule which I personally believe should go both ways. Plus depending on the hat it could be a distraction. I'm sure this policy was on the sylabus which means all students were aware of the rule at the beginning of the semester. If they could not abide by a seemingly silly rule maybe they should have dropped and taken another professor.
