I have "unique" ear piercings... I have my rook and tragus pierced - no one has ever said a thing to me.. plus, mine are barely visible.
I did student teaching and now a full-time position with my tongue peirced.. and there are tons of teachers I see with their noses pierced.
As long as the ring or stud is modest I don't think it is a huge deal.
