It happens. Usually the result of some long-standing issue.

When they were pledges, one guy in our chapter basically sucker punched a pledge brother while they were getting a ride back from a frosh. Both were drunk. Guy that got punched had his nose broken. He couldn't get a very retaliation b/c he was in the back seat. I can't remember who the driver was or how they handled it...Both guys were sent to our judicial board. Had to work out the differences with a mediator (think it was the VP). Some of our more cut members served as security for it, b/c they were both pretty heated for a couple of weeks afterward.

The pledge classes have typically arranged and set up a "Pledge Fight Night" over the years, usually right about this time. Gives everyone a chance to vent some of the frustrations that come from living with new people in such close proximity. They weaar headgear and gloves. It's one of the things that I noticed as I lived in the house that tension gradually peaks every 6 weeks or so, or close to breaks, as people just get tired of the little things that take place. Right before Fall Break is the worst, as the freshmen are still learning what it means to be living with roommates, and that's usually about 8 weeks in, so it's a little bit longer, and the joy of being back in school has subsided a lot.
