The Atlantic basin shows a very peaked season from August through October, with 78% of the tropical storm days, 87% of the minor (Saffir-Simpson Scale categories 1 and 2 - see Subject D1) hurricane days, and 96% of the major (Saffir-Simpson categories 3, 4 and 5) hurricane days occurring then (Landsea 1993).
I was a meterology major for a year and always thought it was ironic that one of the US' leading hurricane scientists' name was Dr. Landsea.

I also thought that the former head of Occidental Petrolium, Armand Hammer was named after Arm and Hammer baking soda. Or vice versa. It really confused me as a child.

He was apparently named after the symbol, which was a communist symbol, but not the brand, which took the symbol later or something. I'm still confused.
