I would agree that it would be like always being in your letters.
Persionally I'm not a fan of tattoos b/c it seems like a sunk cost - when you get them, you're really into them, etc, then you get older and get out of that phase. Then what ? You could get it removed, but then that would cost even more.
Just MHO though
