Obviously theory and practice are two different things, and this is not always done. But there have been cases where bartenders have been held responsible for the actions of somebody they've served alcohol to who ended up driving drunk.

That's awesome though that your friend does that. So many times I've seen bouncers watching drunk asses with keys in their hands getting into cars and leaving. They know they're responsible, but they never do anything. Your friend's bar is pretty smart for having them do that!
