I found my last 2 jobs (including the current one) on line. One was on monster and the other was on a speciality site.
The problem with monster is the shear volume. I am a recruiter and I put jobs on monster, careerbuilders all of the time and you would not believe the number of resumes that you get that are not even close to meeting the minimum qualifications for the job. Without a applicant tracking system or key word filter (which my current company does not have) a recruiter has to look at each and every resume. Even still , there are dozens that DO meet and exceed the qualifications. Out of that 30 - 40 that meet the quals, I may only talk to the top 10 - 15 and then bring in 5 or 6 for interviews. That's why most people prefer to go around the recruiters because they have a better chance of being seen face to face.
