Latifah Heads to 'Chicago'"
M'max rounding out cast of bigscreen version of B'Way play

by Charles Lyons
Variety, October 25, 2001

Queen Latifah will join the cast of "Chicago," the film version of
the Broadway musical alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere and
Renee Zellweger. Latifah will play matron Mama Morton.

Miramax is releasing the Bill Condon-penned adaptation, with Rob
Marshall helming. Producers are Marty Richards and Harvey Weinstein,
with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron exec producing.

Richards produced the Bob Fosse tuner, which won two Tony Awards in
its original, 1977 staging.

Latifah last appeared in the Walt Disney Co.'s "The Country Bears,"
to be released next year. Outside her talker, "The Queen Latifah
Show," she has starred in "Set It Off" and appeared in such pics
as "Bringing Out the Dead."
