My mom wasn't gung-ho about me joining a sorority. My dad had been in a fraternity in the 50's and when they were dating, they were shunned by the sororities because my dad was dating a GDI. Therefore, she wasn't too thrilled that I wanted to be in a sorority. After the first mother-daughter tea that she attended, she changed her tune and now she is really impressed with my continued involvement, because my dad didn't make TKE a lifelong experience for himself. She is totally pro-sorority now.

As a mom, she is also probably concerned with her daughter's happiness, especially after what you went through last year. I think moms actually have a harder time dealing with their children's pain than their kids do! We have this protective instinct that we want to put them in a bubble safe from physical and emotional harm.
