Salina???
A CA in CA refers to Salina as not having any campus or so I
understood. Well, Kansas Wesleyan has been there a hundred
years. I do not know of any "juco" there. Marymount College,
a private Catholic school, folded a few years back. The vacating
of the Smoky Hill Air Force Base provided the "campus" for the
K-State entry, presumably to offer an aeronautical curriculum. This was a sneaky move by KSU to inch into Salina, as they began
to offer a few 'here and there' courses, gradually increasing the
numbers...then Phi Delta Theta and one other NIC outfit entered
the campus, well-publicized, and housed...It is now a full-fledged
operation. I think the Vo Tech operation is still in place, too.
Many of us were shocked at K-State's move, but then we are not
in control...it is paradoxical that Kansas is adding even MORE 4
year institutions, lord only knows there are plenty of jucos, now
called "community colleges." I base this knowledge on having been a dean at one of these (6 years) and a PhD dissertation on
Kansas colleges. Salina is the 3rd or 4th largest town, and I've
never heard of it as a "dump," I am a 5th generation Kansan.
