Just out of curiosity, has anyone else heard of this type of wedding reception? I went to one in Baltimore, and it was held in this huge, almost warehouse looking place (on the outside). On the inside were seven different "halls" for receptions, and lots of places for photo ops - a waterfall, an old bridge over a stream, a rainbow, a fountain, etc - pretty nice!

Each of the halls had the head table at the front, and the dance floor in front of that. One either side of the dance floor were the tables of people. When the food was served, carts came down the dance floor, and platters of (delicious!) food were served, family style. Afterwards, there was a table with at least a dozen different cakes and other desserts from where you could help yourself.

Oh, and as I'm asking about traditions, does anyone do "the money dance", when someone puts money in a box/bag/apron and then can dance with the Bride or Groom, or is that a Baltimore thing, too?
Honey- that reminds me of the wedding hall place in "The Wedding Singer" with Adam Sandler. Was it kind of like that?

I have seen the money dance before. I was not offended but did not have one at my wedding. It didn't even really cross my mind to do something like that- I guess I think it's a little tacky. But then again I think cash bars are tacky also.

Another thing on my tacky list is when a mother or [biological] sister throws a shower for the bride (or a baby shower for the mom). Am I the only one was was brought up believing that a relative should not throw a shower and it should be given by a friend?
