Try testing with another computer from the same location.

You say she's always had trouble. It could be a problem with the card.

Try changing the wireless channel on your router. This changes the frequency... if other electronic equipment (such as cordless phones) is interfering with the signal, this may help.

If all else fails, tell your roomie to associate with your neighbor's access point instead... j/k
