There are basically two Chinese views of China. One is that whereever a nation uses the Chinese alphabet, and if that nation was once part of China, then it still is Chinese. This is the view taken by the current Chinese government, and that means that they consider Taiwan part of China.
There is another view that is really a collection of local views. This is a more accurate representation of China; a collection of different nations. During most of China's history, these nations were seperate. Only when there is a strong authoritarian dynasty are these seperate nations united.
My opinion is that the rise of China is greatly overrated for two reasons. The first is that I believe that India will pass it sooner than many people believe. The other reason is that if China liberalizes its society, seperatist movements (plural. very plural.) will be able to use democracy to devolve the centralized rule intil "China" is basically no more than the EU of its constituent nations.
